A new way of learning pointe

Over the last 100 years, ballet training has evolved. Learning to dance on pointe has not.

4Pointe aims to change that.

There has been tremendous change in classical ballet in just the last 20 years. With input from Pilates, Yoga, Girotonics, PBT, and physical therapists, dancers have learned better and more effective ways of training and using their bodies. They are becoming more fit and aware than ever before. Yet, in all of this time pointe training has remained the same or even fallen behind.

The Method

The 4Pointe method focuses on 4 elements:

  1. alignment of the foot and leg

  2. strengthening of the muscles in the foot and leg

  3. articulation of the foot and ankle

  4. repetition of the exercises at different tempos and intensity

This systematic method requires daily repetition to make sure that the twenty-six bones, thirty joints and one hundred muscles of the foot develop properly.

Teaching Philosophy

The 4Pointe method is enhanced with a 4 part philosophy consisting of Creativity, Health, Respect, and Motivation.

  • Promoting creativity in class and in teaching by finding new ways to communicate old ideas and information

  • Fostering a healthy work environment for both students and teachers, as well as developing an awareness of the value of a healthy mind and body

  • Encouraging respect for one’s self, one’s place in this art form, and gratitude for the teachers that guide you

  • Inspiring motivation through positive feedback, honesty, transparency, support, and guidance

Schedule an Introduction

Sign-up for a 30 minute session to get to know the 4Pointe method and its teacher, Lynne Charles. During this time goals, background, experience, injuries, and other physical attributes will be discussed to assess whether 4Pointe is the right fit for you.

Lynne Charles is the most progressive teacher of pointe work I have ever seen. Her pedagogic demeanor puts to shame even the most capable dance teachers of our time.
— Renato Paroni, Ballet Master - English National Ballet
Lynne has such an extensive background and knowledge of dance and we feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with her. She is a true patron of the arts and her dedication to dance and to dancers as a whole have exceeded anyone we have worked with in the past.
— Caroline Baldwin and Andreas Kaas; Principal dancers with the Royal Danish Ballet
In her work with students Lynne shows her passion by being committed to each students individual concerns. Striving to the highest standards, while working in an atmosphere, which allows a whole class to grow immensely as a group.
— Christian Martinu, Director ABC Ballet Tokyo
Lynne Charles’ teaching is well thought out, and focused on core issues of placement, building strength, musicality and artistry. Her coaching ability rises to the highest level of artistry
